Recent Trends in Archaeological Theory: Some Comments
This paper selectively reviews some recent themes in archaeological theory: a philosophical pragmatism, a turn to materiality, and understanding the past in the context of the present. It concludes with some reflective comments on the author’s Archaeological Theory: An Introduction, in advance of the third revised edition.
متن کاملEuclidean Field Theory and Singular Classical Field Configurations
Euclidean field theory on four dimensional sphere is suggested for the study of high energy multiparticle production. The singular classical field configurations are found in scalar φ and SU(2) gauge theories and the cross section of 2→ n is calculated. It is shown, that the cross section has a maximum at the energy compared to the sphaleron mass. E-mail address: [email protected]
متن کاملComments on Solutions of Vacuum Superstring Field Theory
We study classical solutions of vacuum version of Berkovits’ superstring field theory, focusing on the (super)ghost sector. We first argue that the supersliver state which is annihilated by η0, though it has the correct quantum numbers and solves the equation of motion, is actually non-perturbatively pure-gauge, and hence it fails to describe a D-brane. As a step toward the construction of non-...
متن کاملInstability of Abelian Field Configurations in Yang - Mills Theory
It is shown that static purely electric or purely magnetic abelian field configurations in Yang-Mills theory are unstable when the electric or magnetic field strength is too large over too wide a region. The critical parameter is gEL2 (gBL2) where E (B) is a measure of the field strength, and L is a measure of the distance over which such field strengths extend.
متن کاملAn Effective Field Theory Calculation of the Parity Violating Asymmetry
Weak interactions are expected to induce a parity violating pion-nucleon coupling, h (1) πNN . This coupling should be measurable in a proposed experiment to study the parity violating asymmetry Aγ in the process ~n + p → d + γ. We compute the leading dependence of Aγ on the coupling h (1) πNN using recently developed effective field theory techniques and find an asymmetry of Aγ = +0.17 h (1) π...
